Government

Eneos is a planet that is entirely under the domain of a corporate state. More specifically, Eneos is a planet run under the Chrysanthemum Consortium, a massive alliance of conglomerates that spans Eneos, its moons, and holds great sway in the star system where Eneos is located. What this entails is that a board of directors is responsible for dictating policies enacted on the planet proper, with specific sectors on the surface being managed by a company executive. Civil rights are present, but few, and the majority of Eneos’s citizens serve the purpose of employees or are immediate relatives of the aforementioned employees.

Historically, the Tenkawa family have filled important roles on the board of directors, and still do the Tenkawas remain, akin to a pseudo-dynasty. Various branch families exist as well, and for all the presumed fluidity in status one can theoretically achieve, a sizable amount of the higher social strata hail from these corporate houses.

Geography

Eneos is home to two moons in its orbit, where the Consortium has established a fleetyard for the production of ships to be sold to varying aspects of the market. It is here that an He-3 refinery has also been established, to obtain the radioactive isotope for use in the Consortium's coveted energy reactors. The planet proper is more accurately described as a former star, but has since become host to a Dyson Sphere project, turning it into a veritable hive world bristling with spires and towers all powered by the planet’s core. Litanies of complexes dot key points on Eneos's surface, extracting and refining ether for use in a variety of appliances. Thanks to artificial atmospheric efforts, Eneos does possess some semblance of a proper atmosphere, though the times when the skies are azure rather than a hazy gray are rare.

Culture

Eneos upholds a strong socio-hierarchical system that is based on meritocracy, all according to an individual’s role in the corporate society. However, it is a fallacy to simply confuse Eneos as being by and large nothing more than a planet-sized factory.

The diverse amalgam of various cultures from different planets extends to the planet proper, and underneath the towering spires and stratosphere-scraping offices exist night markets, garish neon lights, and all the trappings of a society confined by population density and influenced by diversity, such as Gutterspeak, a vulgar dialect unique to Lower Eneos.

While uniform in accordance with prefabricated portions of the Dyson Sphere, sectors often vary in construction and architectural layout based on the corporate house or director overseeing that region, though most conform to reinforced glass and pearly white prefabricated walls. The areas known simply as the Lower Warrens however, strike a vast contrast to the blandness of corporation regulated higher society, and it is here that anything––sometimes even the grandest of vices––can be found. High Tech, Low Life. These words sum up Eneos in a nutshell.

Locations

Jigoku Street––Bright lights, raucous crowds; unlike the upper levels more austere in design and in spirit, this red-light district deep in the heart of the original welfare tenements is the embodiment of life itself. Or the very excesses of life, depending on whom one asks.

There are no real rules at Jigoku Street, and individuals from street artists to hedonists abound. The occasional Corporate patrol or raid can be seen in the area, but for the most part they are content to leave Jigoku Street alone. For now.

Hua Yuan Night Market––A place of many extremes, where rich and poor live in close proximity among artisans and merchants. It is said that what happens in Hua Yuan, stays in Hua Yuan; and since no one seems to know what happens here, this might well be true.

Three streets feed into one curved plaza, passed every day by thousands of people. The night market is a go to place for small eats, and the fifty-odd vendors and tiny food stands that line this unnamed route seem to have a little of everything.

The Spires––High class, high-rises, high prices - here the wealthy and elite look out over the city from glittering towers of glass and steel. This is where the Great Houses and Execs reside, among the most modern and luxurious condos and restaurants that the city has to offer.

The Blocks––Spartan, uninspired, dull, drab. The Blocks are the most numerous of locations in Eneos, and it is here that the majority of the productive middle class resides. Mostly prefabricated housing, the Blocks are by no means particularly unique, but they serve their purpose in fulfilling the needs–and some entertainment–of the average corporate employee well.

The Foundry––With facilities buried deep in the prefabricated crust of the planet, and large underground complexes that span the length and breadth of perhaps oceans on other worlds, the Foundry is where the majority of Consortium equipment gets produced, and the de facto location for the organization's skunkworks and trade.

Platforms and floors cut off from the massive amalgam of factories separate customers and salesmen from air saturated with toxic gases and harmful particles, while a crew of automated machines and personnel toil endlessly below, be it from mass producing assembly lines of weapons to the secretive testing of a new E–Reactor's anti-gravitational capabilities. Weapons are bought, ships are sold, deals are struck, contracts are broken; all here in this location deep in the heart of the Lower Warrens, guarded with miles of electric fence and burly prosthetic-enhanced guards.

Corporate HQ––A pair of towers with an edge sharp enough to cut through the very atmosphere, looming over the already spire-clad skyline, and all below. It is here that more important matters are deliberated from closed walls: profit margins, potential markets, infighting and intrigue––both violent and nonviolent. Junior Execs and above might find a sense of quiet comfort to entering through those biometric scanners flanking an expansive marble-tiled lobby, but to others the towers only appear more or less menacing.

A token ISC garrison establishes its presence at the foot of the Corporate Headquarters, but they can only enforce so much of the Council's resolutions with corporate security eying their every move.

History

To trace the roots of present-day Eneos is to trace the roots of the Chrysanthemum Consortium and its foundations, to trace the lineage of the Tenkawas far back to a singular planet, an amalgam of countries lost to the march of time.

The origins of the Chrysanthemum Consortium have long been lost, but of what is known is that the Chrysanthemum Consortium was once a loose collection of companies bound by an array of business marriages and free-trade alliances, consolidating into a singular group over the course of time with acquisitions and mergers. This group was nowhere near native to Eneos; in fact, until perhaps several hundred years ago, Eneos wasn’t properly categorized as a planet. Only after a lengthy construction project intended to deal with overpopulation was it constructed as an artificial planet, a megastructure that drew ether from its core as part of a gambit to gain control over the surrounding sphere of influence, and to power the countless complexes and facilities that pockmarked its surface grids and sectors. A grand project to deal with overpopulation, and to house refugees affected by the aftermath of the Great Crisis. This eventually transformed into a corporate state where those that remained either swore subservience to the corporations that held dominance over their energy, their food, and their air, or retreat to the deepest of Eneos's depths. And the rest, is history. Now, Eneos is the seat of power for this pact of mega corporations, and while it does maintain a presence as an indirect actor––supplying ships and weapons––in the realm of interplanetary relations, for the most part they prefer for corporate matters to be better left to themselves.

Elseimian advances in technology––particularly anti-gravity––have led to no small amount of attempts at corporate espionage by Consortium BlackOps, and even now the Consortium still seeks to unravel the mysteries behind what makes Elseimian anti-gravity technology so potent, in comparison to their own makeshift attempts developed in parallel. All the while, the Consortium struggles to keep its own unique technologies secret from Elseima, and in the darkness have the two states waged a shadow war against each other.

- All MAJOR orders and sales are subject to approval from the Economic Relations Board of Eneos, and a 2/3 majority from the Consortium. This includes vessels above the tonnage of a corvette, and weapons of a Category S License.
